THE GREATEST FAMILY KNOWN TO MANKIND

Many feel that life is dull, empty and void of excitement and happiness. Jesus said,"I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly." The Apostle John speaks to us in First John chapter 3 concerning this abundant life we can have in Christ. The rich are poor, the wise ignorant and the strong weak until they come to know the truths John is revealing in the first three verses of chapter 3. John wants us to know that it is a wonderful thing to belong to the greatest family known to mankind!

In verse 1 and the first part of verse 2 John describes The Christian’s Dignity…What We Are. When John says,"now we are children of God," we are reminded that the only way to become children of God is to be born into God’s family. We should know that Christianity can not be inherited. It is not of blood. Just because our parents and grandparents were Christian does not make us a Christian. We also need to know that Christianity can not be earned. It is"not of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Not only do we become children of God, but we are joint heirs!

John gives us The Christian’s Destiny…What We Shall Be in verse 2. There are some things we do not know. We do not know about the future."It has not yet been revealed what we shall be." We do not have to understand everything. There are some things we do not know because God has not yet revealed them.

John tells us there are things that we do know. John assures us that Jesus is coming again…"When He is revealed." He tells us that"we shall see Jesus as He is." Not as He was but as He is, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And then that wonderful thought,"We shall be like Jesus." We will be transformed so that we can see Jesus as He is!

In verse 3 John writes about The Christian’s Duty…What We Should Be."And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as Christ is pure." Here is the powerful point John is emphasizing. A person who really believes that they are the child of God and going to see Jesus face to face, purifies himself, living each day walking the holy road, looking for Jesus to come; living for Jesus to return and longing for Jesus to return. What a way to live as members of the greatest family know to mankind!"What A Day That Will Be" when my Jesus I shall see!
